Upon first starting my job at PRCO, I was told that I would be attending one of the most glamorous and lovely press trips ever imagined, The ME by Meliá Jet Press Trip. I had the pleasure of taking four journalists on a whirlwind trip to one of the most beautiful hotels in Milan and then fly straight onto Ibiza on the hotel’s private jet. Delighted as I could be, I was not sure what to expect. Little did I know this trip would be better than I could ever have imagined…
ME Milan Il Duca
After touching down in Milan, we were whisked off to ME Milan Il Duca, a gorgeous property located in the centre of Milan, in one of the largest Italian squares, Piazza della Repubblica, which was built in 1865 to house Milano’s central railway station.
I couldn’t help but be impressed by the gorgeous building, with its front gates covered in ivy and an impressive front courtyard filled with flowers, the perfect place to relax and have tea or after work drinks with friends.
World Renowned Design
The building boasts a balanced and simple design, which clearly stands out as one of the most prominent buildings in the square.
ME Milan Il Duca is situated in the former building of Hotel Duca di Milan, which was redesigned and extended between 1988 and 1991 by globally renowned late architect
Aldo Rossi, creating a masterpiece of modern Italian architecture. In fact, Aldo Rossi was defined as “a poet who became an architect”, as he always believed that architecture was key to a city.
This cosmopolitan hub combines elegance with ME by Meliá’sfour experience concepts to create a stimulating atmosphere and stay. The hotel is a fusion of traditional and contemporary Italian design with seductive furniture, neutral colours and urbane textures.
Spectacular Rooftop Space
We headed up for lunch on the panoramic Roof terrace, Radio Rooftop Bar, which has spectacular views that sweep over Piazza della Republicca, including the new Garibaldi Business District with its futuristic towers, as well as the historical city beyond.
We had a lovely lunch with the wonderful Aura Manager Riccardo, who told us all about his experiences and encounters with famous celebrities, including Paris Hilton and Adam Levine, who choose ME Milan Il Duca as their favourite place to stay. My favourite moment involving the Radio Rooftop Bar was when we watched the sunset over the stunning skyline.
Impressively “Chic” Rooms
The hotel offers 132 rooms modern in design, including 34 suites, 32 of which are Chic suites, plus the Personality Suite, Presidential Suite, which can be combined to form the Suite ME.
The journalists were all given Chic Suites, which were decked out with all of the modern furnishing and more that one can expect from a 5 star hotel of this calibre, including:
Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV with home cinema system and an iPoddocking station, laptop with built-in socket support, mood lighting, bathrobe and slippers, 1800W Hairdryer, Apivita amenities, rain shower heads, ceramic hair straighteners in suites, ironing board and iron on request, in-room bar, Illy coffee machine and amenities for pets on request.
For dinner, we had the pleasure of dining at STK, the famousAmerican steakhouse located in ME Milan Il Duca, which combines the feeling of a modern steakhouse with an urban lounge.
We were seated in cozy leather booths and treated to a selection of prime sirloin and signature entrees paired beautifully with both red and white wines.
By far one of the best parts of the trip involved one of Melia’s exclusive experiences, the ME Jet.
Our entire group was extremely excited for this part of the trip, so we could not be happier as we boarded the private ME Jet, a plush jet with a personal crew that picked us up at ME Milan Il Duca and flew us exclusively to the Mediterranean’s party and glamour capital.
Catching up on Vogue while drinking strawberries and sipping Moet was hardly a difficult way to arrive in Ibiza.
After landing at the airport, we were picked up in the stunning white ME Range Rovers, which effortlessly glided to the resort.
ME Brand Essence
We were met by Aura Manager Lara, who was just lovely and greeted us each with yet another glass of champagne, this time poolside, where she explained the open air, ME Ibiza concept and design elements and told us that ME Ibiza is the only modern luxury hotel in Ibiza to be a member of the Leading Hotels of the World.
The highlight for me as a PR professional, was hearing one of the journalists state that he recognized the signature smell from the ME Ibiza lobby, from his past trip to ME Madrid…brand recognition at its finest! Sweetening the experience even further, was the small bottled essence of the frangrance gifted to each journalist on our last morning in Ibiza.
This incredible Balaerian retreat is located on the coast, only a short boat ride from Formentara. With 179 bedrooms and 26 deluxe suites showcasing a minimalist, Ibiza-inspired decor, ME Ibiza presents a truly indulgent experience for the lifestyle traveller.
The hotel is located in a secluded bay with direct access for yachts and has beautiful pools which have 360 degree views of the Marina and the neighboring Nikki Beach, making it the perfect place for both relaxation and fun.
ME Boat Trip
We were all extremely eager to board the private ME boat, which drifted us off to Formentara, where we were able to snorkel in crystal clear waters and had lunch at Beso Beach, an exclusive restaurant regularly inhabited by barefoot locals. After lunch, we attempted to board the boat back to shore, but as it turns out, we had a few technical difficulties and were stranded on the boat for a few hours, hardly an issue as General Manager Rene, was an absolute delight and made the experience extremely fun by turning up the music and handing out diving gear!
After arriving back at the hotel, each journalist was treated to a comforting massage treatment at the soothing SkinC Spa up on the rooftop. This rooftop, yet another of the ME brand’s incredible spaces, where your relaxation will be enhanced by the stunning 360º views of the island’s famous white sandy beaches.
Relaxing dinners at Salt & Sea as well as The Rooftop restaurant rounded out each night, followed by a ride in the ME Range Rovers to Pacha Ibiza, where we were provided with guest list entry.
I would certainly count this press trip as successful, seeing as the journalists were very impressed by both ME Milan Il Duca and ME Ibiza as well as the staff. Aura Managers Riccardo, Rene and Lara were extremely accommodating and the Editors commented that they especially enjoyed the personal touches made to ensure a remarkable stay for each guest, as this stood out as a main point of difference from other hotels.
The journalists seemed to love their stay and provided glowing feedback!
‘This once in a lifetime experience went above and beyond and provided me with material for multiple editorials, from the luxurious jet setting available to the top end of ME clients, down to the sheer soporific pleasures of blue skies and clear oceans that anyone can identify with.’ Jola Chudy, Editor, La Femme and Debonair
‘Thank you again for the trip, it was an unbelievable experience, at both stunning hotels.’ Richard Jenkins, Editor, World Traveller
‘Thank you for the amazing opportunity to experience the ME brand, ones with a very clear identity that set them apart from other hotels.’ Matthew Priest, Editor in Chief, Edgar Middle East
Overall, this successful and out of this world press trip was certainly one to remember!
